Dinero Myth: Condiments

Dinero Myth: Condiments

Some people have a junk drawer. Latinos have a condiment drawer. ¿Y por qué? One myth is that we are saving money by collecting as much as we can to avoid having to purchase these items to keep at home. But the math doesn’t add up! 🤦‍♀️

  • A 1-pound bag of coffee averages $9 ☕

  • A 5-pound bag of plain white sugar $3

  • A 1-pound bag of coffee makes about 40 cups

So each cup is about $0.23 when brewed at home. Adding 1 ounce of sugar only costs $0.04! 🤑

Wherever you picked up that condiment – you would’ve saved more by making your cafecito at home! Spending the money to buy the coffee where you swiped the sugar packets from is comparable to what you could’ve spent buying a whole bag of azucar. 👀😱

So this Dinero Myth is false! Of course you can use your leftover condiments when you need them, but it is often better to buy the whole bag.
